Siesta Key
An eight-mile barrier island whose sand is 99 percent quartz — blinding white, cool underfoot, and the reason Siesta Beach lands on national lists every year. The north end near the village is dense and social: 1950s cottages, low-rise condos, and Ocean Boulevard's bars within walking distance. Sanderling and the south end are quieter, with canal-front houses that come with a dock and a bridge-free run to the Gulf through Midnight Pass channel. Weekly-rental zoning on parts of the island makes it one of the few places locally where a vacation-rental pro forma actually pencils.
